'One of the most compulsive psychological mysteries since Donna Tartt's The Secret History' THE TIMES Retired detective Cal Hooper moves to a remote village in rural Ireland. His plans are to fix up the dilapidated cottage he's bought, to walk the mountains, to put his old police instincts to bed forever.
Then a local boy appeals to him for help. His brother is missing, and no one in the village, least of all the police, seems to care. And once again, Cal feels that restless itch.
Something is wrong in this community, and he must find out what, even if it brings trouble to his door.
Our greatest living mystery writer weaves a masterful tale of breath-taking beauty and suspense, asking what we sacrifice in our search for truth and justice, and what we risk if we don't.
I have always excited to read when it comes to a thriller/mystery book. I like to follow the characters and together we uncover the mystery of it that gives me a thrill.
The Searcher is a story about Cal, who just moved to a remote Irish village after his divorce and no longer works with the Chicago police force. He decides to start a new life at a new place. Little did he know, there are secret and trouble to come which he knows he needs to solve it.
I love the mystery vibes in the story that seizes my attention which I seriously want to flip the pages furious but I just cannot do that. Because the truth is, it is a frustratingly slow-burn mystery, sometimes a bit too much that makes me want to skip it but couldn't do that. Unfortunately, I no longer feel the excitement anymore I just want to finish this book as quickly as I can because I want to know what happened.
Less about that, onto the good thing of this book because I'm saving the best for last. When the investigation finally begins, curiosity in me has gone up. It does create suspense although might not too much of it but still okay for me. I love Cal and Trey bonded together. It warms my heart. I do realize that this story not really showcase the thriller or the mystery as the main subject but it is more to the people of what happened in the community.
Overall, a very slow-burn story that seriously testing your patience somehow emotional, an atmospheric story. In short, it is a good story. I wish I will give more love to this book, however, this book not really working out for me but it might be appealing to you more than I do.
