AZMIN Ali said he was unaware of rumours he is going to be appointed as the deputy prime minister as he was hospitalised at the time such talk was doing the rounds
The economic affairs minister said he was committed to his work and will be focusing on economic development
“I was unaware as I was under sedation. It was a four-hour surgery so I had no idea what was going on,” he said today, over speculation he was set to be made deputy prime minister
Azmin, who was undergoing treatment for kidney stones, said he had returned to duty as soon as he could to ensure work is being done to grow the country’s economy

Previously, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there would be no change to the current cabinet line-up, denying rumours of a reshuffle
Talks on a potential cabinet reshuffle emerged after Utusan Malaysia quoted the “Anotherbrickinthewall” blog as saying that Mahathir had agreed for Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be replaced by Azmin as the deputy prime minister
Azmin said this was the time for the cabinet to work together under Dr Mahathir’s leadership to grow the country’s economy and address pertinent issues such as the cost of living and price of goods
“This is a joint responsibility that the prime minister has given to all the cabinet’s members – that is, to work together to reduce the people’s burden,” the Gombak MP said
