One of the MPs who spoke to the New Straits Times on condition of anonymity said they were informed of this during a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday.
"We were told that Terrirudin's name was not on the list to be submitted to the King," the MP said.
The MP said that those present were also informed that Terrirudin's name was not on the list for the Court of Appeal President or Chief Judge of Malaya posts.
Speculation has been rife that Terrirudin, the former attorney-general, was among the candidates for the Chief Justice's post following Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat's mandatory retirement on July 2.
Last week, Rafizi and eight other PKR MPs publicly urged the government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe alleged interference in judicial appointments.
Police are probing the leak of Judicial Appointments Committee (JAC) meeting minutes, which have raised concerns over judicial interference.
Various stakeholders, including the Malaysian Bar, MPs, and PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar, have called for a probe into the allegations, saying it was necessary to restore public confidence in the judiciary.
Yesterday, hundreds of lawyers marched from the Palace of Justice to the Prime Minister's Office in defence of judicial independence.
They also submitted a memorandum outlining four demands, which include filling vacant top judicial positions, disclosing the minutes of recent JAC meetings, forming an RCI to investigate judicial interference, and addressing overall judicial vacancies.
