(Facebook pic)PEKAN NENAS: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s corruption trial will not affect other candidates of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), party co-founder Lim Wei Jiet said.
“Questions will be raised by the voters but it is our duty to explain to them,” he told FMT in an interview.
“Because it is choosing between Barisan Nasional and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to be Prime Minister or supporting a progressive reformist multiracial coalition (Pakatan Harapan),” said Lim, who will be contesting the Tanjung Piai seat, while Syed Saddiq will seek re-election in Muar.
Lim said Muda candidates have an obligation to explain Syed Saddiq’s case to voters.

“Syed Saddiq is currently in the midst of a trial, so it doesn’t mean he is guilty or convicted. He will have his day in court to put in his defence. If he is found guilty then he has to seriously consider his next cause of action.”
Lim alleged that there is evidence that Syed Saddiq is a victim of a politically motivated prosecution because of his refusal to support then prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
On Oct 28, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur held that Syed Saddiq must enter his defence on charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust of RM1 million, misappropriation of RM120,000 and two charges of money laundering involving transactions of RM50,000 each.
The charges are in relation to funds belonging to Bersatu Youth during his tenure as the wing’s chief.
Lim said: “We just have to explain to the voters that this is the choice he has made and we won’t compromise on integrity but let the court make a decision.” - FMT
