Syed Saddiq Apologises To Najib S Ex Adviser Over Defamatory Claim

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has apologised to a former adviser to Najib Razak, to settle a defamation suit.
(FMT) – Syed Saddiq read out his statement of apology in the Kuala Lumpur sessions court to Habibul Rahman Kadir Shah, 68, for making slanderous claims at a press conference at the Seri Pacific Hotel on Oct 2, 2017.
The former Muda president said he was misled by several parties into alleging that Habibul was linked to threats made against him and his family, Harian Metro reported.
Syed Saddiq said he regretted his actions and apologised for the troubles and inconvenience it had caused Habibul.
“I admit that my statement had tarnished the reputation and image of an individual who served as an adviser to the sixth prime minister,”
the former minister was quoted as saying.
Following the apology, the court vacated tomorrow’s trial date. The trial began on Tuesday and was supposed to go on until tomorrow.
In September 2021, Habibul, a businessman, demanded Syed Saddiq apologise for linking him to an alleged plot to offer bribes to Bersatu members.
Reports had said Syed Saddiq, who was then the Bersatu Youth chief, had alleged that there was a systematic attempt to influence Bersatu leaders to quit the party in 2017.
The Muar MP had refused to apologise for making the remarks, prompting Habibul to file a suit in November 2021.
