Stop Politicising Race Just Because Car Driver Is China National

A LIFE was lost in just a blink of an eye. But nobody wants an accident of such nature to happen.
A horrifying video shared on X by MYNEWSHUB (@mynewshub) showed a vehicle travelling on the fast lane when the driver misjudged a corner, lost control and veered to the left before hitting a motorcycle head on, killing the motorcyclist instantly.
The poster had claimed that the car driver was a China motional but did not reveal the identity of the victim.
The tragic incident is believed to have occurred at 1.42pm pm on June 13 based on the dashcam of the vehicle owned by Zura Aziz which recorded the fatal accident at KM24.8 of the MEX Highway heading towards the Putrajaya toll booth.
One netizen gave a heart-wrenching update, claiming that the motorcyclist is his neighbour in Terengganu.
He was on the school run while his spouse was expecting their second child. The couple had been anticipating the arrival of a baby girl with great excitement.
He further requested for Al-Fatihah prayers for the deceased while appealing for conveyance of only civilised comments to which a commenter who was shocked with the news claimed that the deceased was his roommate for three years when they were studying and were still in contact.

This was when another netizen – presumably a lawyer – sought the deceased’s contact details to offer legal services to his family.
One commenter berated the poster for using ‘race’ and ‘nationality’ to stir emotions. Calling it “rage bait” (as if the driver had purposely wanted to ram into the motorcyclist), she counselled that perhaps the poster should drop ‘news’ from its moniker – MYNEWSHUB – arguing that such was gutter journalism.

Echoing this sentiment, another commenter contended that such headlines could create suspicions or wrong perception. Imagine if the headline had read that it was a ‘Malay driver who killed the motorcyclist’.

Unfortunately, there were enough who lapped up such quasi-racist reporting.

One netizen hoped the victim’s family will take civil action against the driver. Reasonable advice but one which was signed off with a racial slur.

The government of the day lacked the political will to take necessary action against foreign nationals, argued another netizen. Again, a racial slur was used.

There was also unfounded feeling among some that Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook is biased towards foreign nationals, in particular those from Chinese-speaking countries.

Some were just unable to hide their racist tendencies at all, side-stepping the accident completely.

Regardless of the race of the person at fault, quite a few netizens did point out that that particular stretch of road was dangerous and prone to accidents.

Make absolutely no mistake – it is a tragic accident. But an “accident” is what it is.
People need to stop framing everything in racial terms. Would it had been reported similarly if the tables were turned where a Malay driver had killed a Chinese national?
Such reporting and social media content that fuels such hate must stop. – Focus Malaysia
