Stop Land Clearing Works At Bukit Lagong Activist Tells Selangor Govt

The Green Party today urged the Selangor state government to order the stop of two land clearing works in Selayang and Rawang, which it suspects are linked with a plan to open new quarries at the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.
In a statement, its pro-tem secretary Abdul Razak Ismail claimed the land clearing activities involved a large area at the forest reserve.
"The Green Party urges Jamaliah Jamaluddin, the state executive councillor in charge of environment and the Selangor government to issue an immediate stop work order against land clearing activities at two locations near Matang Pagar in Selayang and the area of an Orang Asli settlement in Ulu Kuang, Rawang.
"We believe that these land clearing activities are for the opening of new quarries at the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve," he said.
Razak also expressed his frustration over the alleged incident, saying that attempts to open the new quarries had stopped in 2023 after the plan was exposed to the public the previous year.

"Throughout 2023, things were quiet at this forest reserve without any activity, but sadly now we found that land clearing works have begun there in early 2024.
"We are also unsure if those conducting the land clearing works at the forest reserve have carried out an environmental impact assessment before starting the activities.
"Thus, the Green Party urges Jamaliah to take immediate action, as she had announced in Oct 2023 that Selangor has high standards when it comes to protecting the environment," Razak said.
In September 2022, Malaysiakini reported that quarries were going to be opened up in the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve.
Among the companies involved include three developers that are linked to the Selangor state government. - Mkini
