Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave Kelantan state leaders a private briefing this morning on economic development.PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged the four PAS-led state governments, dubbed the state government four or “SG4”, to be “business-friendly” in order to attract investments.
In a statement today, Malay Proclamation secretariat chairman Khairuddin Abu Hassan said Mahathir gave the Kelantan state leaders a private briefing this morning on economic development.
“Mahathir reminded the states’ leaders to carry out a leadership transformation, in particular, to strongly uphold ‘business-friendly’ principles as well as to effectively meet the needs of investors,” said Khairuddin.
He added that, during the meeting, Mahathir stressed that there was potential for Kelantan to receive investments from Japan, South Korea, as well as the Middle East.
The meeting took place at the Kelantan menteri besar’s official residence from 10.30am until 1pm.
Last month, Mahathir was appointed as the states’ economic adviser, particularly on administrative matters and to pull in foreign investment.
Khairuddin said Mahathir also stressed the importance of collaboration between the state governments and private sector as a catalyst for economic growth, to generate surplus income and create job opportunities for locals.
“The ‘Malaysia Incorporation’ concept of administration between the government and the private sector should be emulated by all states under SG4.”
According to Khairuddin, Mahathir said solving the water crisis in Kelantan would have a huge impact on the state and attract more investments.
“Good infrastructure development with clean water supply will serve as a catalyst for more industrial parks to be built in the state.”
