Seputeh Mp S Office Denies Sidelining Umno In Residents Council
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s office has dismissed Seputeh Umno’s claims that the latter’s members were sidelined in appointments for the Federal Territories Residents’ Representative Council (MPPWP) for the constituency.
In a joint statement, Kok’s (above) political secretary Alice Choo and MPPWP Seputeh chairperson Alice Lan called the allegation “unreasonable and unfair”.
They stressed that the selection of council members was conducted transparently and inclusively, with appointments made based on performance and service record, as per the Federal Territories Ministry guidelines.
The pair stated that the prerogative in this matter rests with the MP’s office, as mandated by the Federal Territories minister.
ADS“Over the years, the Seputeh MP’s office has also provided substantial allocations to mosques, suraus, and associations led by Umno leaders, enabling many activities to be organised for the residents’ benefit.
“In appointing committee members for each sub-zone within Seputeh MPPWP, we considered representation from residents, including parties within Pakatan Harapan, residents’ associations, NGOs, as well as members from BN,” Choo and Lan said, in response to Seputeh Umno secretary Nurul Hazwani Haslan.

They noted that although Seputeh BN and Umno had not submitted lists of nominees, their members were nevertheless included in the council.
However, several Seputeh Umno members declined their appointments without providing any reason, they claimed.
The duo added that DAP had also never protested against Umno’s Titiwangsa MP Johari Abdul Ghani for not appointing DAP members to the MPPWP in his constituency.
“The Seputeh MP’s office and MPPWP hope that Seputeh Umno will appreciate the cooperation we have extended in accommodating their requests for the benefit of the community.
“We also hope to strengthen and foster closer cooperation between Seputeh Umno, the Seputeh MP’s office, and MPPWP for the well-being of the community,” Choo and Lan added.
Umno candidates ignored?
Umno’s unhappiness with Harapan over political appointments in the Federal Territories flared again, this time with the Seputeh division insisting it was sidelined from the MPPWP.
Hazwani on Sept 20 claimed that the Federal Territories Department reneged on its promise to appoint party representatives for the 2025-2028 term.
She was responding to a statement from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa’s political secretary, Nur Azrin Surip, who said the people’s welfare must take precedence over individual or party struggles.
Azrin made the remark to counter allegations by Batu Umno chief Gulam Muszaffar Gulam Mustakim and the rural and regional development minister’s political secretary, Razlan Rafii, who both claimed their party members were sidelined in the Federal Territories.

Batu Umno chief Gulam Muszaffar Gulam Mustakim and FT minister Dr Zaliha MustafaADSShe stressed that MPPWP political appointments also included BN representatives.
However, Hazwani said the second round of appointments in Seputeh ignored Umno’s proposed candidates.
The same day, Gulam issued a statement calling for Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the communications minister, to be appointed as federal territories minister in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle, believed to be scheduled later this year.
In his Facebook post, Gulam explained that the problems plaguing the federal territories were a result of non-locals being given the post of federal territories minister. - Mkini
