Selangor Islamic Authorities Working To Uncover Family Trees Of Rescued Gisbh Children

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Islamic religious authorities are working with two government agencies to draw up family trees of the majority of the 435 children who were rescued from welfare homes linked to a company last month.
In a statement, Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais) director Shahzihan Ahmad said they were working with the social welfare department and the national registration department on the matter.
He also said Jais discovered that some of the marriages and divorces conducted had been determined by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) leaders.
In some cases, Shahzihan said, the marriages were not registered, while the polygamous marriages had not been approved by the shariah court.

This has created confusion regarding the lineage, marital status, and documentation of the parents of the rescued children, which would have serious implications, including the possibility of an invalid marriage.
Shahzihan also said that to date, 108 suspected GISBH members had been detained.
He said they were believed to be involved in various shariah offences, including those revolving around religious beliefs, illegal funds collection and marriages.
Shahzihan said the suspects were involved in practices as well as held beliefs that went against the fatwa (religious edict) issued by the state.
One such belief is that Al-Arqam leader Ashaari Mohammad, or Abuya, did not die and is in an invisible realm, while another is that Abuya and Prophet Muhammad were present at events they organised.
GISBH had previously said it had discarded its former image as the business wing of the Al-Arqam group.
On Sept 11, police raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, which the authorities had linked to GISBH, and rescued over 400 children and made several arrests.
Police said their investigations showed that at least 13 of the children were sodomised or taught to sexually assault others. GISBH has denied the allegations and any link to the case. - FMT
