Scammers Charging Rm200 For Flood Aid Forms Sentosa Assemblyperson
There are irresponsible parties who charged flood victims in Selangor up to RM200 for each application form requesting flood assistance in the state.
Sentosa assemblyperson Dr Gunaraj George said a police report had been lodged against a syndicate, active in the Klang district, that was targeting the elderly and single mothers.
He said every assemblyperson’s community service centre in Selangor has been working hard to facilitate flood disaster relief applications for free for those affected by the floods.
He added that the smooth process had been helped by close cooperation between the local assemblyperson and the district land office.
“A police report has been lodged about this matter to prevent the syndicate from continuing its operations and exploiting people.
“I urge all Selangor residents to be wary of the tricks of certain people who supposedly want to help but have malicious intentions,” he said in a statement today.
Gunaraj, who is also the Kota Raja PKR branch chief, also reminded Selangor residents affected by the floods last Dec 18 to contact their Adun’s office and the district land office respectively to receive aid and support.
“The Selangor state government has announced the provision of RM1,000 cash assistance in the Selangor Bangkit assistance package to all heads of households affected by the floods.
“However, the disappointing thing is that there are still those who try to fish in troubled waters when the people are in such a tight spot,” he said.
Meanwhile, a police report lodged by Sentosa Indian Community chief Thangarajah Abdul @ Kassim dated Jan 2 said several Malay men and women were collecting application forms for flood relief at a restaurant in Taman Sentosa, Klang.
Thanagarajah said they had received complaints from local residents who found that those men and women had done so on the pretext of speeding up the process of receiving the flood relief cash aid. - Mkini
