Sabah Pkr Chief Faces The Heat As Calls For Removal Get Louder
Christina Liew, a former deputy chief minister, has rubbshed claims against her, saying such statements are the norm with party elections due early next year.KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR is facing a leadership crisis with more leaders calling on party president Anwar Ibrahim to remove Tawau MP Christina Liew as state chairman.
Tawau PKR division youth chief Tommy Thomas said that most of the party’s 26 divisions in the state wanted her out.
In a joint statement here today, the party’s wing leaders said the state PKR needed a leader who enjoyed majority support from its members to carry the party to greater heights instead of just riding on the strength of other parties.
They felt Liew was not the person to bring the party forward, especially with the alleged existence of statutory declarations (SDs) signed by 17 division leaders rejecting her as chief.
“We urge the president to resolve this crisis before the matter becomes worse,” they said.
“We hope he will use his wisdom and discretion to realise the grassroots’ wishes so the party can be strengthened before the next general election.”

Liew had said yesterday that the claim by Tommy merited no response from her as he was only representing himself and not the chapter’s youth wing.
The former deputy chief minister also noted that such statements were also the norm with the party elections due early next year.
Tommy had called for a revamp of the state leadership, alleging that Sabah PKR had been facing a leadership crisis since Liew took over as acting chief from the previous head, Lajim Ukin, who quit in 2016.
He also claimed that 17 of the 26 division heads had previously signed SDs rejecting Liew as the chief. He said these SDs had been handed over to Anwar. - FMT
