Sabah Bersatu Youth Questions Armizan Involvement In Another Company

Sabah Bersatu Youth has raised questions on the position of Papar MP Armizan Mohd Ali in the Dewan Rakyat and as the domestic trade and cost of living minister.
This comes after checks revealed that he allegedly still holds a director position in a company.
Sabah Bersatu Youth chief Hisyam Hazaril Azman said the Federal Constitution clearly prohibits a member of the administration from being involved in business at the same time.
According to Hisyam, Armizan’s admission that he previously held a position on the board of directors of state subsidiary Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) has created a conflict of interest as he was also the then minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak affairs and special duties).
“While this issue about conflict of interest was yet to be explained, checks with records kept by the Companies Commission on April 1 revealed that he is also a director in a company called Common Tower Technology Sdn Bhd, having been appointed to the position on Feb 1, 2023.
“The rakyat are now puzzled if Armizan (above), as a member of the federal administration, is not subjected to the code of ethics for MPs and cabinet members issued by the Prime Minister’s Department, that he could hold up to two director positions in companies," he said in a statement.
Hisyam pointed out that the code of ethics clearly states that cabinet members are prohibited from being involved in businesses because it can cause conflicts of interest.
He claimed Armizan had also violated Article 48(1)(c) of the Constitution, which prohibits an MP from holding an office of profit.
“Generally, both provisions stated that an MP is disqualified from holding the position if he holds an office of profit.
“If the director positions are indeed positions that give profit (to Armizan), then the Dewan Rakyat has to make a decision according to Article 53(1) of the Federal Constitution.
“All these issues must be answered by Armizan as they involve his integrity as a cabinet member,” Hisyam said.
