S Gor Govt Rolls Out Rm73 877mil Stimulus Package To Meet Current Challenges
Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari - Bernama
KLANG: The Selangor state government has rolled out an RM73.877mil economic stimulus package dubbed Pakej Kita Selangor to meet the harsh challenges of current times.
In announcing the package, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state has done its best to mobilise whatever resources it had to go towards the welfare of the state’s people.
Some RM 7.177mil given as student loans by Yayasan Selangor to 762 students have been written off under the Pakej Kita Selangor.
“This initiative has been implemented after Yayasan Selangor scrutinised the recipients’ ability to pay as well as their current income," Amirudin said.
The state government has also allocated RM6mil toward continuing its free mass targeted Covid-19 screening programme which will benefit 50,000 people.
“The programme will focus on target groups such as senior citizens who are high risk, especially the elderly at old folks' homes and haemodialysis centres throughout the state as well as the B40 group and Selangorian graduates," said Amirudin.
He said the state government had been carrying out targeted Covid-19 community screening since last year and has carried out 19,976 free swab tests throughout Selangor.
The state has also allocated RM3mil to go towards providing lunch and dinner for 9,822 medical frontliners in the various hospitals and district health departments as well as 3,500 police and military personnel who are on duty to ensure SOPs are adhered to as well as stationed at roadblocks.
The RM3mil food subsidy comes from the state’s Mentri Besar Incorporated, said Amirudin.
Given the increase in Covid-19 cases, the ferrying of low risk patients to isolation and treatment facilities is taking a toll on the Health Ministry’s transportation system, said Amirudin.
“This also results in patients having to wait for quite a long time before they are taken to the low risk quarantine and treatment centre at MAEPS, Serdang.
“To reduce the Health Ministry’s frontliners’ burden, Smart Selangor buses will be used free of charge to send patients from their homes to MAEPS, Serdang," said Amirudin.
To ensure that the people’s burdens are lessened as much as possible, a special allocation of RM100,000 will also be channelled to each of Selangor’s 56 state constituencies under the state Mesra Rakyat Programme as soon as possible.
He said state assemblymen would be able to procure basic essentials such as rice, cooking oil, flour, canned food as well as other requirements with the allocation to be distributed to their constituents.
“Parliamentarians will also receive RM50,000 each for the same purpose," added Amirudin.
