Robbery Suspect On The Run Steals Police Vehicle To Evade Cops

A suspected robber was arrested near Port Klang after a 30km chase. (PDRM pic)PETALING JAYA: A robbery suspect stole an unmarked police vehicle to escape pursuing detectives but was finally apprehended in Port Klang yesterday after leading the police on a 30km chase.
The 31-year-old suspect was in possession of several drugs and had a criminal record, South Klang police chief Cha Hoong Fong said.
The suspect who was driving a Proton Inspira was trying to evade detectives who were pursuing him in an unmarked Myvi. This led to a 30km high-speed chase between Banting and Klang.
In his haste to outrun the police, the suspect drove recklessly along a road near Kampung Pendamar Mosque, flew over a speed bump, causing the car he was driving to go flying and flip sideways.
Abandoning the Proton Inspira, the suspect fled by foot to a nearby village with detectives hot on his heels.
The suspect however doubled back and jumped into the detective’s Myvi and tried to drive off. The police fired several shots at the suspect but he managed to drive away.
He was eventually apprehended by the police in the vicinity of Jalan Kem, Port Klang on the same day.
Cha said he learnt of the incident after receiving a call from a man at around 7pm about gunshots involving the two vehicles. The incident was recorded by witnesses and shared on social media.
A South Klang police team dispatched to the area then discovered the CID team and learnt about the entire chase.
The suspect has been handed to the Subang Jaya police headquarters for further investigation over the robbery. - FMT
