Rina Harun was served a bankruptcy notice for debts owed to French production company Novovision to the tune of RM1,340,642.02 as at Nov 17, 2020.PETALING JAYA: The probe into women, family and community development minister Rina Harun has found no elements of corruption in her million-ringgit debt settlement to a Paris-based production company, according to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said this in a written reply to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh had asked the prime minister to provide an update on the probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on her settlement especially pertaining to the source of the money.
Previously, five other opposition MPs had also urged MACC to reveal the findings of the probe, questioning how she managed to accumulate so much wealth and pay off her debt in such a short time.
They said this would not have been possible based on the list of assets she had declared over a year ago.
A report was lodged with MACC over the source of the funds with which she had settled the debt in February.
Rina, who heads the Bersatu women’s wing, was served a bankruptcy notice for debts owed to French production company Novovision to the tune of RM1,340,642.02 as at Nov 17, 2020.
According to the background of the case, Rina, who was one of the directors of now-defunct companies Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, Fine Mobile Network Sdn Bhd and Fine TV Network Sdn Bhd, had purchased several comedy shows and documentaries from the company.
She and another company director, Ida Rahayu Md Noor, had in May 2014 entered into a guarantee agreement with Sarl Novovision that they would personally and jointly undertake all liabilities of the three companies.
However, the companies had all ceased to operate between December 2013 and August 2015. - FMT
