Reject Umno S House Arrest Call For Najib Law Applies To All Dap Mp
A DAP MP today called for a vehement rejection of Umno’s push to have jailed ex-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak serve the remainder of his prison term on house arrest.
In a statement today, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said all criminal convictions must be respected and executed without favouritism.
He said Umno’s request not only undermines the principles of justice, but also invites the perception that there exists special treatment for influential political figures.
“Malaysia cannot become a two-tier nation, one law for the elite, another for the people. The rule of law must be upheld fairly, with integrity and consistency towards all, without exception.
ADS“Najib has been found guilty by the highest court in the case of public fund misuse. If an individual associated with the country’s largest financial scandal is granted such privileges, what message does this send to civil servants, other leaders, and ordinary citizens?
“Are the laws only strict towards those without position or influence?” Lim asked.

In response, Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii said there were no double standards at play as the matter lies within the jurisdiction of the law.
“Keep your hatred far away,” he advised Lim.
He said each person has the right to appeal their charges, and Najib is not the first to have been granted a pardon or commutation of his sentence.
Get king’s consent
Umno Veterans Club secretary-general Mustapha Yaakub expressed hope that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will appear before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to seek the latter’s consent in executing the addendum.
“Umno veterans humbly and hopefully appeal to PMX (Anwar) to present to the Agong the government’s agreement to implement Najib’s addendum after the attorney-general has made a decision that it exists,” he said in a statement today.
He said that the club understands that the Pardons Board meeting lacked an agenda for Najib’s house arrest, but stands firm on the king’s power to issue it.
“But it is still within the Agong’s power and discretion, which should not be questioned, and its implementation should not be rejected,” he added.

Umno Veterans Club sec-gen Mustapha YaakubRoyal decree recognised
Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki yesterday said the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) not disputing the existence of the royal addendum for Najib, will allow the latter to be placed under house arrest.
ADSAsyraf said that since the AGC has confirmed the addendum existed, this acknowledges the royal decree for Najib’s home detention.
Najib is relying on the existence of the royal addendum to back his civil court bid to compel the Home Ministry and the Prison Department to execute the house arrest.
He is serving a six-year jail sentence for his conviction in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, following the Federal Court’s dismissal of both his appeal and subsequent review application.
“It is hoped that by the grace of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, that Najib may be granted a reduction in his sentence, which has been delayed for over a year,” said Asyraf.
On Wednesday, senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan reportedly said the AGC did not dispute the addendum’s existence but was challenging how it was submitted as new evidence in Najib’s judicial review application at the High Court. - Mkini
