Rafidah Fires Six Questions Ahead Of Parliament Sitting

Rafidah Aziz wants to know what exactly the 70-plus Cabinet members have been assigned to do to help manage the pandemic.PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s “Iron Lady” Rafidah Aziz has posed six questions to the government on behalf of the people ahead of Parliament reconvening on July 26.
The first question, said the former federal minister, was addressed to her former student in university, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“Can the PM please let us know what exactly the 70-plus Cabinet members have been assigned to do to help manage the pandemic, especially in the area of effective online engagement with their relevant stakeholders?” she asked in a Facebook post today.
She questioned if the Prime Minister had requested for reports on how each ministry and its agencies will operate post-pandemic.
Rafidah’s second question was whether the government would publish reports on how the people’s money had been spent, along with who sanctioned it and through what process.
“In particular, the billions spent so far for the various packages. Please itemise the details, the amounts and the target groups, and what impacts there have been.”
Third, she asked finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz to give an update on the total public debt as of July 15, how much the government had borrowed during the pandemic and how much of the National Trust Fund had been used.
She also requested for details on how much was withdrawn from the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), and how many people have less than RM1,000 left in their accounts for retirement.
Rafidah added that Tengku Zafrul should explain what measures were already in place to revive the economy and sustain socio-economic growth, and if there was a plan to ensure Malaysia’s competitiveness in international markets.
Her fourth question was addressed to the education ministry, on its plans for the new normal, such as retraining teachers, reformatting educational content and effective evaluation of student performance at all levels and areas.
Rafidah, in her fifth question, then asked when all ministries would inform the public about the new policies and initiatives they would implement by the time Covid-19 could be managed.
“This is to clear some concerns that many ministers are not doing anything at all, especially in addressing the issues faced by their respective stakeholders in society and in the economy.”
Lastly, Rafidah requested for ministers with portfolios involving society’s welfare, mental health and vulnerable groups to explain how they were addressing the impact of the pandemic and what measures would be implemented moving forward.
“I hope there will be answers forthcoming and not the sickening ‘kita akan kaji’ (we will look into it), ‘kita akan jawab kemudian cara bertulis’ (we will respond later in writing) or worse still, to give totally off-tangent answers.” - FMT
