Probe Into Muhyiddin S Claim On Sds Still Ongoing Says Home Ministry

PETALING JAYA: Police are still investigating the case involving Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, who claimed to have 115 statutory declarations (SDs) supporting him as prime minister after the 15th general election, says the home ministry.
Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the investigation was being conducted under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The investigation paper was referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers and on Sept 11, it was returned for further investigation,” he said in a written parliamentary reply.
“Therefore, the ministry does not intend to comment further on this case, to avoid interfering with the investigation.”
He was responding to Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu), who asked about the latest developments in the investigation into the SDs from 115 MPs purportedly backing Muhyiddin as prime minister.
The SDs were among the documents Muhyiddin submitted to the police on Aug 12, after his speech during the Nenggiri by-election campaign which resulted in numerous police reports against him.
In his speech, Muhyiddin asked why Sultan Abdullah had not invited him to become the prime minister after GE15, even though he had the support of enough MPs to form the government.
The Pagoh MP later defended his speech, saying it was factual and not intended to insult the monarchy or incite the public.
The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, had also expressed anger at Muhyiddin over his remarks, accusing him of deliberately disparaging the former king. - FMT
