Police Say Viral Message On Cop Dying After Receiving Covid 19 Vaccine Is Fake
Police have brushed off a message that went viral stating that an officer from the Gerik police station died due to complications after receiving a second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
The message stated that Corporal Rakmin Yusoff, 58, died in Gerik Hospital's emergency unit after he was purportedly brought there around noon on April 3.
In a response, Gerik police chief Zulkifli Mahmood said the officer was still alive and warded at a hospital in Taiping, Perak.
"Not true. This is slander. The patient's condition is stable, and he is at the Taiping hospital.
"He was treated after having a heart attack, not Covid-19," he told Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the police have received information linking the allegation to a Facebook user known as Junaidah June.
"Action will be taken against the said social media account holder for unscrupulously spreading fake news.
"The family of the said police member (Rakmin) was affected by this irresponsible act," Mior said in a statement.
He advised the public not to trust unverified information before referring to the related authority.
He added that Rakmin would be transferred to the National Heart Institute soon.
The government is rolling out the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for senior citizens aged 65 and above, between April and August.
The first phase of the programme was rolled out from February to April, involving 500,000 frontliners.
The third and final phase, for those aged 18 and above, is expected to be conducted from May to February 2022, covering more than 13.7 million individuals. - Mkini
