Abu Bakar, who is also Perlis Bersatu chairman and PN deputy chairman, downplayed the seriousness of the rift, describing it as a common feature of political dynamics.
He expressed confidence that the top leadership of both Bersatu and Pas would be able to resolve the issue swiftly and amicably.
"In my view, the issue is not as serious as it may seem. In politics, such matters are normal. There may be some friction or differences of opinion between parties.
"I am confident we will remain united as a team in PN. The leadership at the coalition level between Bersatu and Pas is like a family. Insyaallah, any disputes or disagreements will be addressed and resolved in the near future," he told reporters after being sworn in today.
Abu Bakar took his oath of office before the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, at about 4pm at Istana Arau, following a political crisis that culminated in the resignation of former menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
The crisis also involved several PN assemblymen, including three Pas assemblymen who were sacked by the party, as well as five Bersatu assemblymen who had earlier withdrawn their support for Shukri.
Commenting on the three vacated seats held by the sacked Pas assemblymen, Abu Bakar said the matter should be left to the ongoing process.
"We will wait for whatever actions or appeals may be submitted by the three assemblymen involved. We hope this issue can be resolved quickly and, if possible, we do not want by-elections to take place," he said.
On the five Bersatu assemblymen, Abu Bakar said the party's central leadership had already been in contact with them and that they may be called in to explain their actions.
"What is important is that any action taken must adhere to the party constitution and regulations. Unity within the party and the coalition must be preserved," he added.
Abu Bakar also said there would be slight adjustments to the state PN leadership structure following his appointment.
"We will consult the relevant parties to ensure that unity (within PN) is maintained in governing the state. What matters most is ensuring Perlis continues to progress, and Insyaallah, we will succeed," he added. - NST
