Pm Orders Immediate Repair Works At Flood Hit Areas

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin mingling with flood victims during a visit at the temporary evacuation center in SMK Seberang Temerloh. - BERNAMA picKUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has instructed the relevant Pahang and federal government authorities to immediately undertake all repair works at flood-hit areas.
Muyiddin had earlier today visited the Temporary Evacuation Center (PPS) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seberang Temerloh and SMK Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Chenor, Maran, to check on the flood situation.
Temerloh and Maran, he said, were two of the seven districts in Pahang that were worst-hit by the floods.
"I checked on the needs of the flood victims and ensure that their welfare is taken care of.
"I have requested that the district office, local authorities as well as state and federal government agencies to immediately focus on repairing infrastructure damaged by floods such as roads, mosques and schools," he wrote on Facebook.
Muhyiddin said the federal and state governments need to work together to care for the welfare of every flood victim, which should not be limited to providing them with daily necessities and shelter at the PPS.
The affected community, he said, should receive the necessary aid for a certain period until it is deemed appropriate for them to return home.
"The same goes for other aspects such as repairing their damaged homes. This measure is to ensure that victims do not continue to be in a state of trauma as a result of this tragedy."
Also present during his visit were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, National Disaster Agency (Nadma) director-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim and senior officials of the relevant agencies.
Muhyiddin also met with senior citizens who took refuge at the PPS, to ask about their health condition.
"Alhamdulillah, they were fine and some thanked the government for providing the PPS with adequate facilities as well as staff who always ensure the implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
"I have instructed the management of PPS and National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to provide two tents to families with more than six people. This is to ensure that they are comfortable during their stay at the centre.
"I understand that in Temerloh there are 91 PPS sheltering 11,589 victims from 3,178 families. Of that number, a total of 197 families involving 852 victims were from PPS SMK Seberang Temerloh.
"I pray for all of them, including 53 families who are currently housed at PPS SM Tengku Ampuan Afzan as well as all flood victims throughout the country to be spared from any illness and to be able to return to their homes in good health. God willing." - NST
