Ph Promises To Bring Back B40 Healthcare Programme
Adly Zahari says the Kad Peduli Sihat programme will be reinstated if Pakatan Harapan wins on Nov 20. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan will reintroduce a healthcare programme, Kad Peduli Sihat for the B40 if it is back in the driver’s seat after the Nov 20 Melaka elections, former chief minister Adly Zahari has promised.
The Amanah vice-president was named Melaka chief minister in May 2018 when PH won a simple majority in Melaka after the general election.
However, defections by four assemblymen saw his administration collapse in March 2020, just days after PH was toppled at the federal level. He was replaced by Sulaiman Md Ali of Umno. With the collapse of the PH administration, the programme was shelved.
“Previously, we approved the Kad Peduli Sihat programme, where we wanted to set aside a budget for the rakyat to get better treatment and medical services.
“We are confident that with a new mandate, we can continue with the Kad Peduli Sihat programme, especially as we are now facing Covid-19.”
Under the programme, which was scheduled to start in February 2020, more than 1,000 B40 families in the state stood to get between RM300 to RM500 a year for treatment at selected private clinics.
In July 2020, Melaka women’s affairs, family development and welfare executive councillor Latipah Omar said the programme would be terminated due to constraints and bureaucratic hassles.
Adly said PH would also focus on providing more scholarships to Melaka youth so as to boost their technical skills and prepare them for the job market.
Noting the lengthy Covid-19 lockdown, Adly said PH would work towards boosting tourism, providing targeted assistance to the most needy, and microcredit loans for small businesses if it wins.
While PH has yet to announce its choice for the chief minister’s post, DAP has publicly backed Adly for the post. - FMT
