Ph Has Good Chance To Retain Selangor Says Amirudin
Selangor PKR chief Amirudin Shari hopes Pakatan Harapan’s track record in urban and mixed seats would keep the party in power. (Bernama pic)SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan has a good chance to retain power in Selangor at the state assembly elections next year, says state PKR chief Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, was hopeful that PH’s track record in urban constituencies and mixed demographic seats would safeguard the state for the coalition.
“Whatever happens, we have to work hard to prove to the people (that PH deserves to form the state government again). We still have a few months to complete the (state government’s) term,” he told reporters.
In the general election last month, PH won 16 of the 22 seats in Selangor, a significant reduction compared to the 20 seats won in 2018.
PKR lost several key seats seen as its strongholds, such as Kapar, Kuala Langat and Hulu Selangor, which were snatched by Perikatan Nasional. PN also won Tanjong Karang and Sabak Bernam, long held by Barisan Nasional, as well as Sungai Besar.
PN had also won the Padang Serai seat in Kedah, another PKR stronghold, with a commanding majority of 16,260 votes even though BN made way for the PH candidate in the contest for the parliamentary seat.
The outcome of the Padang Serai polls meant that PN swept 14 of the 15 parliamentary seats in Kedah, while PH only managed to snatch one, namely Sungai Petani.
In GE14, PH had won 10 parliamentary seats in Kedah, comprising PKR (6), Bersatu (3) and Amanah (1). PAS had won three seats and BN two. - FMT
