Perdana Fellow Axed After Allegedly Misrepresenting Achievements
A Perdana fellowship scholar stationed at the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry has been terminated from the programme for allegedly falsifying information about his achievements.
The Youth and Sports Ministry announced that the individual had presented a false certificate for one of the achievements he listed during the application to the programme.
“Therefore, regarding this issue, he will be terminated from participating in the Prime Fellow programme because he has violated the terms of the programme’s agreement.
“However, he will be offered to attend a counselling session.
“At the same time, the ministry will initiate an investigation to ensure the implementation of this programme is further strengthened in the future,” it said in a statement today.
Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the individual involved, who is not a public figure.
Not the first time
It is learnt that the same individual went viral on Twitter in 2020, now renamed X, after announcing that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) had offered him a scholarship to study at the National University in Singapore.
His announcement even received congratulatory messages from then-prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former higher education minister Noraini Ahmad and former science, technology and innovation minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
However, after courting criticism from netizens for discrepancies in his story, he claimed that he was scammed.
Earlier, the Perdana Fellows Alumni Association said that it had submitted an official letter to the relevant authorities to conduct an investigation into the matter.
It added that it did not possess the authority to conduct background checks on applications during the selection process.
The Perdana Fellowship was launched in 2013 and has produced 763 fellows, thus far. - Mkini
