Built on a 24-acre tropical garden the mall offers popular brands including home appliances at markdown prices. Located less than 5 minutes from the North-South Expressway and Penang 2nd Bridge at Batu Kawan. Few weeks after the opening I got the chance to check out the place and did some shopping by myself.

Parking Lots at Penang Outlet Mall Design VillageSharing with you on my experiences and observations during the visit so you get a glimpse of what to expect if you go there.
1. Shops and Brands Available
There are a lot of shops already started their operations such as Padini, Brands Outlet, Hush Puppies, Converse, Superdry, etc. The ratio is about 70:30, 30 percent of the mall is still on renovating stage that is why you can see "coming soon" sign on a few shop lots.
2. Discounts and Deals
This is the most important points to highlight. There are so many malls in Malaysia and what makes Penang Outlet Mall unique is there are sales practically everyday!. I managed to snap a few photos to show you some examples of the pricing of the stuff sold there. Some of the shops even offer you additional discount if you purchase more items or at a certain price.
With over 150 stores planned in the 400,000 square feet outlet mall, Design Village offers you a whole new experience of shopping in the tropical garden, with wide sheltered walkways and captivating jewel boxes. Shoppers are spoilt for choices, especially with something new on offer virtually every day, often at up to 70% discount, making it seem like a year-round sale.

3. Food and Restaurants
After spending some time in the mall of course the stomach will get hungry and you need food to refuel your energy. There are a few choices that you can choose to satisfy your hunger and thirst ;
Baskin RobbinsCofee Bear & Tea LeafCube CoffeeDomeStarbucks Wendys Unfortunately there are not much choices and hopefully more to open soon.
The food court
Initially I went to Wendys to have lunch however had to leave because it was super full and pack with people. I ended up eating at an open area which I assumed to be the "food court". There was no fan so its quite hot and the food sold was pre-packed food such as mee goreng, bihun, nasi goreng, laksa. The laksa was nice though. There are also food trucks selling desserts operated by chinese vendor.
4. Is the place child friendly?
For family who is bringing their baby and child along for the shopping trips, I would say yes!. There is a stroller provided which you can request from the management and apart from the food court (which has no aircond or fan) the shops are fully air conditions. There is also a shop that offer a place for your kid to play while you are doing your shopping. The shop name is Curiosity and they also sell Minions t-shirts.
If you are tired of walking, you can take a train ride which cost RM5 and the train will take you around the mall. Mikael was busy playing @ Curiosity
