(Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah are set to earn RM1 million a year under a new contract with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), according to a report
Berita Harian reported that the offer was decided at a recent meeting by the BAM council, and that the pair, whose previous contract expired in December, had agreed to it.
BAM is reportedly open to further increasing the contract value if Pearly-Thinaah perform well at the Japan Open and China Open this month, as well as the BWF World Championships next month.
They are expected to sign the contract before heading to Tokyo for the Japan Open, which will be held from July 15 to July 20.
BAM secretary-general Kenny Goh declined to comment on the matter, asking the media to wait for an official announcement.
“As the BAM president (Tengku Zafrul Aziz) has said, discussions have been positive. That’s about all I can say. For BAM, we definitely want what’s best, so let’s wait and see,” he was quoted as saying.
Despite the previous uncertainty surrounding their future with BAM, Pearly-Thinaah had continued to perform well, capturing the Thailand Open title in May and finishing runners-up in the Indonesia Open last month. - FMT
