Pay Up Sesb To Cut Off Electricity Supply For Those With Over Nine Months Of Outstanding Bills
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will take drastic action and cut off electricity supply of consumers with over nine months of outstanding bills from December.
The utility company's senior general manager (assets management) Norhizami Abu Hasan said the decision was made since the figure of uncollected payments have reached millions of ringgit.
The power cut exercise will commence after Dec 6 and users are urged to clear their outstanding bills, he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 22).
"It is the responsibility of consumers to clear their respective power supply bills every month, even though SESB has not conducted any power cuts since March this year due to movement restrictions enforced by the government to curb Covid-19 spread in the country.
“Our records showed there are consumers who did not pay their electricity bills for more than nine months and this indirectly has impacted SESB, ” he said.
Norhizami said notices will be issued starting Tuesday (Nov 24), where users are given seven working days to start clearing their outstanding bills.
“SESB understands there are consumers affected by the various movement control orders (MCOs) currently enforced, thus we are giving those with outstanding bills a chance to discuss with our side to find a solution," he added.
Consumers facing financial limitations could contact any SESB officer at their nearest office to discuss a suitable payment method.
"The number of the respective SESB officer will be printed at the power cut notice that will be delivered to consumers, and they could contact the person for further enquiries and explanations, ” he added.
However, Norhizami said that those with overdue bills of nine months and over who still failed to make any payments, will have the electricity cut at their premises. - Star
