In a statement today, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan extended Happy Vaisakhi wishes to the Sikh community, Chittirai Puttanda to the Tamilians, Vishu Ashamsakal to the Malayalees and Pohela Boishakh to Bengalis and all those who are ushering in their respective New Years, this week.
"PAS wishes a Happy New Year celebration for the four communities, which falls either today or tomorrow, a joyous celebration filled with blessings, prosperity and success," he said.
As integral components of the large Malaysian society that is multi-racial and multi-cultural, Takiyuddin said the uniqueness of each community will always be respected and valued for the shared experience.
"The well being and success of each community should not be evaluated separately, instead measured through the success we achieve as a nation, alltogether.
"With the Hari Raya Aidilfitri euphoria slowly subsiding, PAS hopes those celebrating this new year would have the same spirit of excitement, goodwill, friendship and mutual respect, which has always made Malaysia stand particularly unique from all the other nations," he said.
The Sikhs celebrated Vaishaki today, meanwhile the Tamils, Malayalees and Bengalis usher in the new year tomorrow.
Celebrations are mostly carried out at temples, Gurdwara Sahibs and places of worship where thousands are present. - NST
