Pas Wants Answers After Video Claims Pm Knew Of Plan To Record Grs Leaders
PAS has demanded answers on whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim gave the green light for businessperson Albert Tei to secretly record his allies in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) over the mining scandal.
The call comes after an explosive video surfaced on social media this evening, just days ahead of the Sabah election’s voting day. The video, featuring a conversation between Tei and a woman whose face is blurred, has ignited fresh controversy.
“Did PMX (Anwar) plan from the very beginning to set up the GRS leaders? Are the GRS leaders aware of this? ‘Siapa game siapa?’ (Who is playing whom?)
“What matters most is that the people of Sabah must reject all of this. The MACC must act. What more evidence is needed? The witness is already there, clearly shown in the video,” said PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari in a Facebook post.
In the six-minute clip, uploaded on the “Pejuang Tun Mahathir” Facebook page, the woman - allegedly a proxy for Anwar’s former senior aide Shamsul Iskandar Akin - told Tei that the prime minister had given his blessings for the Sabah politicians to be secretly recorded.
Tei claimed that while the camera pen belonged to him, the idea to record the politicians came from Shamsul, a point the woman confirmed.
“I asked him (Shamsul) if he had told Anwar about it, he (Shamsul) replied, ‘Yes. Anwar said to do it’,” Tei said.
The woman corroborated this, stressing: “Anwar said ‘buat’, ‘buat’ (do it).”
When Tei, who said he felt “used and cheated”, pressed on who benefited the most from the recordings, the woman replied bluntly: “PMX la.”
According to the video timestamp, the recording was made last Friday. Malaysiakini has reached out to Shamsul and Anwar’s office for comment.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported Tei claiming he had spent more than RM600,000 on Shamsul after being assured the aide would help him recover money given to Sabah politicians.
According to Tei, he has compiled a dossier exceeding 300 pages, including WhatsApp screenshots and receipts, to substantiate his allegations against Shamsul.

Shamsul Iskandar Akin (left) and Albert TeiAmong other claims, Tei said he paid for renovations, appliances, and furnishings for two properties - one in Bangsar and an official residence in Putrajaya.
He also provided WhatsApp screenshots from December 2023 in which Shamsul allegedly requested money while travelling abroad.
Tei said he was introduced to Shamsul by a woman believed to be the same person in the video. Their first meeting took place on Nov 8, 2023, at about 10pm at the Jesselton Cigaro cigar lounge in Kota Kinabalu.
He also said he possesses evidence showing that the woman acted on Shamsul’s behalf.
Soon after Malaysiakini contacted Shamsul for comment, he announced his resignation on X and vowed to defend himself against the allegations, without specifying them.
Yesterday, Tei, who has repeatedly accused Anwar of shielding GRS leaders and using the videos for political blackmail, met with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding the scandal.

Tei with ex-PM Dr Mahathir MohamadSince last November, Tei has released multiple videos, documents, and WhatsApp screenshots implicating over a dozen GRS politicians in accepting bribes in exchange for mineral exploration licences. Tei and two assemblypersons were subsequently charged.
GRS chairperson and Sabah caretaker chief minister Hajiji Noor has accused Tei of being part of a cartel aiming to monopolise mining in the state. - Mkini
