Pas Deputy Sidesteps Hudud After Muhyiddin S Potong Potong Remark
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has declined to comment on his party’s views on the implementation of hudud, after Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin claimed the Islamist party was no longer focused on the matter.
“I think let us resolve the issue of water first. The issue we are bringing right now, even though it is about a toilet, from the aspect of health, has a huge impact.
“That’s why we should focus on this first. Political issues, we can talk about it another time,” Tuan Ibrahim (above) said in a press conference after the officiation and handover for a project to upgrade toilet facilities at the place of worship at Madrasah Haji Junoh, Kampung Paya Keranji, Kota Bharu today.
The environmental and water minister said this when asked to respond to Muhyiddin, who had previously tried to assuage the concerns of Chinese voters about Bersatu’s cooperation with PAS, who had once pushed for the implementation of hudud.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin YassinSpeaking at a dinner with the Chinese community a couple of days ago, Muhyiddin said PAS had been part of the government when he was the eighth prime minister.
He then asked if, during that time, they had ever heard PAS talk about “potong, potong” (chop, chop), an apparent reference to hudud which included amputation as punishment.
“There are some Chinese who are afraid of PAS... they are afraid of stories of ‘potong, potong, potong’.
“When I was the prime minister, there were already three PAS ministers. Now there are also three PAS ministers.
“Did you hear them talk about ‘potong, potong’? There was none.
“This is because when they (PAS) became the government, they understood that they have to consider the Chinese, Malays, Indians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus – they have to take care of all of them,” Muhyiddin had said at the time. - Mkini
