Pas Calls On Muslims To Protest Against Quran Burning Act
PAS will organise a rally in Kuala Lumpur on Friday to protest against the provocative act of Swedish-Danish far-right politician Rasmus Paludan in burning a copy of the holy Quran in Stockholm, Sweden.
Its Dewan Ulama leader Ahmad Yahaya called on all Muslims around the country to participate in the march from KLCC to the Swedish embassy.
“We cannot compromise with any provocative incident let alone an insult to the sanctity of Islam.
“I call on Muslims to come together in solidarity to protest against this insult to Islam.
“It is time for Muslims to voice their strong protest against the Swedish government,” he said in a statement today.
‘Hold OIC emergency meeting’
Ahmad (above) also urged Putrajaya to propose an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss follow-up actions involving other Muslim countries.
“Every diplomatic space needs to be optimised to object to such actions firmly," he added.
On Jan 21, Rasmus set fire to the holy book during a protest in Stockholm.
Swedish-Danish far-right politician Rasmus PaludanPrime Minister Anwar Ibrahim denounced the act, stating that it was a grave provocation to Muslims worldwide.
Meanwhile, Ahmad also urged the Malaysian government to call up the Swedish embassy as it was not the first time such an incident had happened there.
Earlier, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said that Rasmus’ act was extreme and attention-seeking.
“Hence, the action should be criticised and condemned not only by Muslims but by the entire world who wants peace and harmony.
“PAS hopes that the Swedish government will take strict action against the perpetrators as a control measure to prevent similar acts from becoming widespread.
“There is fear that the act may invite reactions and responses that may worsen the situation," he added. - Mkini
