Parenting Support In Indian Community Needed After Boy S Brutal Murder
The Indian community must ensure it has access to parenting tools, mental health support, and strong communal bonds, PKR deputy secretary-general Sivamalar Genapathy.
Speaking on the death of M Tishant, a six-year-old who was allegedly strangled to death by his father, she called for the education and support of parents, stressing that good parenting is learned and not inherited.
"The challenges of modern life, economic stress, time constraints, and lack of community support make it even more important that we equip parents with tools to nurture and protect their children," Sivamalar (above) asserted.
Earlier today, The Star reported that Tishant's mother had attempted suicide over the incident surrounding his death.

M TishantJohor Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairperson Khairin Nisa Ismail confirmed the matter, adding that the mother has been sent to a hospital for treatment.
She said the family had declined the state Welfare Department's support.
Yesterday, the New Straits Times quoted a man claiming to be the granduncle of Tishant saying that the deceased’s mother had not eaten and had been crying continuously since the day he went missing.
End the stigma
Commenting further, Sivamalar called for the end of the stigma against mental health support services.
"Counselling is not a sign of failure; it is a sign of courage. It helps individuals and families uncover root causes, work through trauma, and find solutions before situations escalate," she said.
She also cited the shift away from multi-generational households as an inciting factor in such incidents, saying that additional family members living together provide a network of support.
She further called for parents to be equipped with financial literacy skills to reduce the pressure of financial stress.

ADSSivamalar also urged the Indian community to reject patriarchal mindsets to promote good parenting by ensuring that male children also receive skills in emotional intelligence and accountability.
Tishant was reported missing on July 24 in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The 36-year-old father had claimed in a police report that his son vanished near a coffee shop in Taman Bukit Indah.
The young boy was later found dead on July 28, strangled with a cable tie. His lifeless body was discovered in Rompin, Jempol, Negeri Sembilan.
The father was arrested on July 24 - the same day that he made a police report on Tishant's disappearance.
He has been remanded for seven days starting July 25 as part of an investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false report. - Mkini
