Opportunity For Improvement Loke Offers Maxim And Indrive Chance To Address Compliance Concerns
ALOR SETAR, July 28 — The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a decisive warning to e-hailing companies, Aist Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Maxim) and ID Applications Sdn Bhd (InDrive), regarding their adherence to service operational standards in Malaysia. Both companies must secure the mandatory E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP) to avoid potential suspension or revocation of their licenses.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that these companies are currently under a three-month probationary period, during which their compliance with all operational regulations will be closely monitored.
“Operators facing enforcement measures have the right to appeal to the MOT, and both Maxim and InDrive have exercised this right,” Loke stated.
“We have specified the necessary corrective actions they are required to implement, and initial reports indicate they have begun to make progress. Considering this is their first violation, we aim to give them the chance to rectify their compliance issues.”
“However, if they continue to breach the stipulated conditions, we will have no choice but to suspend or revoke their licenses,” he emphasized during the launch of the Kota Setar Bas.My service in Kota Setar today.
Loke acknowledged the seriousness of the violations committed by both firms, primarily their failure to comply with EVP regulations. He also noted the significant repercussions this could have on drivers and passengers who depend on their services.
“Immediate shutdown without allowing time for rectification could provoke backlash from users relying on these platforms. Every decision we make invites diverse opinions,” he added.
On April 24, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) issued a Notice of Licence Revocation to both operators effective July 24, following an audit that exposed significant compliance issues, particularly concerning EVP requirements.
In response, both companies appealed to the MOT, which accepted their appeals and provided a three-month grace period from July 24 to achieve full compliance with service requirements. Failure to do so will result in stringent regulatory actions with no further extensions allowed. — Bernama
