On Hindraf Anniversary Uthaya Claims Harapan Hardly Delivered To Indians

Hindraf 2.0 leader P Uthayakumar claimed that the Pakatan Harapan government has barely delivered on its promises to the Indian community, particularly the bottom 75 percent income earners (B75) who require assistance
"There appears to be only an estimated 0.05 percent delivery for the B75 Indian poor in Harapan's first 200 days, as opposed to almost zero in the first 100 days," he said in a statement today
Uthayakumar said the problems affecting the Indian poor are rarely heard of in other communities, including the Malays, Chinese, Orang Asli, Kadazan and Iban
"It is plain and obvious that the Harapan government has not begun to address even the very basics, let alone the ‘above the water’ B75 Indian poor issues."Uthayakumar urged Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to meet with his group so that he can present issues afflicting the Indian poor
His statement came amid the 11th anniversary of the Hindraf rally, which he led
However, he had since ceded control of Hindraf after his brother P Waythamoorthy (photo) returned from exile and took control of the movement. Uthayakumar is now operating under a new group, Hindraf 2.0
Waythamoorthy had thrown Hindraf's support behind Harapan prior to the 14th general election. 
He was appointed as a minister following the coalition's victory, and was tasked with addressing the needs of minorities
Uthayakumar, in his statement, listed a slew of examples of the continued marginalisation of the Indian community, including in education and business
He also criticised the Harapan government's RM150 million allocation for the Indian community, calling it a "copy and paste" of the previous Umno government's budget
Uthayakumar added that the issue of statelessness among the Indian community has also not been satisfactorily resolved, with Mahathir only granting citizenship to stateless Indians aged over 60. -Mkini
