In its daily update, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said 25,849 flood victims from 7,983 families were being temporarily housed at 185 relief centres as of noon today.
This compares to 25,351 flood victims from 7,372 families housed at 241 relief centres as of noon yesterday.
Nadma said the three worst-affected districts were Pasir Mas in Kelantan (13,844 flood victims), and Hulu Terengganu (2,846 victims) and Dungun (2,829 victims) in Terengganu.
Pahang, Johor, Selangor and Sabah are the four other states affected by the floods.
In a separate statement earlier in the day when only 24,930 flood victims were recorded, Nadma said that 17,378 of them were from Kelantan and 7,108 from Terengganu.
The remaining flood victims were from Sabah (180), Pahang (177), Johor (83) and Selangor (four).
“As the secretariat for the central disaster management committee (JPBP), Nadma will always ensure that all agencies enhance preparedness to face disasters at all levels,” said Nadma in the statement.
It added that the social welfare department is prepared to activate 8,481 temporary relief centres with a capacity to accommodate 1,620,855 victims nationwide.
Nadma also said that Tenaga Nasional Berhad has cut off power supply to 34 areas in Kelantan and 17 in Terengganu to ensure the safety of users in the area.
In a separate statement, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said 110 transmission stations have been affected by the floods as of 10am today.
It said 24 stations are now operational while its various state offices are actively working on solutions for the remaining 86 stations that are still non-operational.
“They are collaborating closely with service providers to address these issues promptly,” said MCMC.
It also urged the public not to spread fake news, stressing that only verified sources should be relied upon when sharing information. - FMT
