Not A Stolen Chicken Case Give Us Time Igp On Roger Ng Probe
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has appealed for patience with regard to investigations against former Goldman Sachs banker, Roger Ng, arguing that it was a complex matter.
"It has only been two days (since the police started their investigation). This is not a stolen chicken case, so please be patient,” he told reporters in Penang.
Razarudin (above) said investigations regarding Ng, 51 - who was extradited from the US in connection with the 1MDB mega scandal, will continue until the authorities are satisfied.
"There is no time frame (for this investigation). So we will continue (our probe) until we are satisfied because it is the government's and the public’s money at stake.
"We will hold press conferences from time to time. Give us time to investigate (before we reveal anything),” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
On Jan 9, the High Court in Penang granted him a discharge not amounting to acquittal over four charges of abetting Goldman Sachs, by omitting material facts and making false statements, in the sale of security notes and bonds worth US$6.5 billion (RM30.6 billion) belonging to 1MDB subsidiaries.
Roger NgOn April 8 last year, Ng was found guilty by a court in the US for conspiring to embezzle hundreds of millions of dollars from 1MDB and was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison in New York.
On Tuesday, Razarudin Husain said authorities would not reveal Ng’s whereabouts, who returned to Malaysia on Sunday due to safety concerns.
The police chief, who said Ng “was in danger and feared for his safety”, ruled out the need for the latter to be fitted with a monitoring device.
MACC chief commissioner Azam BakiEarlier today, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the agency has not commenced an investigation against the banker.
"We will leave it to the police first. For now, there is no need for us to call him (Ng). We leave it to the police because their investigation must be prioritised.
“Perhaps, they (police) have more important information which can ‘lead to certain findings’,” he added.
