PETALING JAYA: There is no need for a special Dewan Rakyat sitting at this time to discuss subsidies, including those for diesel and RON95 petrol, says deputy domestic trade and cost of living minister Fuziah Salleh.
Responding to a proposal by Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin, Fuziah said the PN MP could raise the matter at the next parliamentary session, expected to begin on Feb 3.
Fuziah Salleh.She said opposition MPs could use this period to prepare key issues that would be raised, including those related to subsidies.
“The February 2025 parliamentary session is the best opportunity to bring up the people’s issues and ask questions,” she told FMT.
“The Dewan Negara is still in session, and we will have the Christmas and New Year break. After that, we can begin preparing for the Dewan Rakyat session and gather questions.”
Harakah Daily reported that Khairil had proposed a special Parliament session to discuss subsidies, including those for diesel and RON95 petrol.
He argued that such a session would be the best way to address the financial burden resulting from subsidies, which had cost the country more than RM80 billion.
Khairil also stressed the importance of cooperation between the government and the opposition to find solutions that best serve the people’s interests. - FMT
