No Decision Yet On Penang State Assembly Dissolution Says Loke

Penang DAP wants the election for the state assembly to be held simultaneously with the parliamentary election. (Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook says the party has yet to come to an agreement on whether to dissolve the Penang state assembly.
Asked if DAP had decided on the matter after a two-hour meeting last night, Loke said there was “no decision made”.
“Sorry, we have no announcement to make tonight,” he added as he left the DAP headquarters here.
Others seen leaving the meeting included DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, deputy chairman Gobind Singh Deo and vice-national chairman Teresa Kok.
Yesterday, Lim said Pakatan Harapan should be open to holding parliamentary and state elections simultaneously in Penang, citing possible low voter turnout if the polls were to be held separately.
Chief minister Chow Kon Yeow has also said he prefers having simultaneous elections. He said Penang DAP had provided its “best argument” to support its case when the party’s top leadership met on Tuesday.
Previously, FMT reported that DAP and PKR were at odds over whether the three PH-controlled states – Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan – should hold their elections simultaneously with the federal polls.
On Tuesday, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah wanted the state government to complete its full term.
However, the sultan’s private secretary, Munir Bani, clarified yesterday that Amirudin, a PKR vice-president, had never sought royal consent to dissolve the state assembly during his audience on Oct 11.
Negeri Sembilan has announced that it would most likely hold its state election next year, although it is waiting for the PH presidential council’s decision. - FMT
