Social activities might not be allowed at Zoo Negara although travel restrictions have been lifted.KUALA LUMPUR: New rules on tourism activities are to be worked out following the government’s decision to lift restrictions under the conditional movement control order in several states.
The government would also review the Work From Home directive for the public services, said senior minister for security, Ismail Sabri Yaacob.
Domestic travel between states and districts will be allowed to resume from Monday (Dec 7) without the need to obtain a police permit.
Ismail said for the tourism sector which involves economic and social activities, further discussions were needed to identify permitted tourism activities.
“Although inter-state travel is allowed, there are some areas still under the CMCO, including tourist destinations, and social activities are prohibited in CMCO areas.
“For example, Zoo Negara may be open to visitors because it is an open-air area, but because it is still in the CMCO region, social activities are not allowed,” he said.
Zoo Negara is located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur bordering Selangor, but the federal capital and Selangor remain under CMCO partial lockdown rules.
Ismail said the National Security Council will have discussions with the tourism ministry for a list of activities that are permitted and prohibited.
The council would also have discussions with the international trade ministry and the director-general of the Public Services Department to examine whether the Work From Home directive should stay in place.
Ismail said discussions would be held with the health ministry about whether members of the public can wear face shields, without masks, in public places. He said permission had been granted only for pupils at school.
“We are worried that if people only wear face shields without wearing face masks, (they) may be subject to action because the wearing of face masks is mandatory,” he said. - FMT
