Netizens Blast Zahid S Daughter Your Upm Board Appt Is Not Coincidental But Due To Strong Cable
AN attempt by Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid to allay public discontent over her recent appointment to the Universiti Putra Malaysia’a (UPM) board of directors (BOD) has seemingly fallen flat after she chided her critics that “it was only coincidental that she’s the DPM’s offspring”.
Brushing aside elements of favouritsm because she is the daughter of Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and UMNO president Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, she further justified that she is just “an ordinary human being just like everyone else” and that “helping people is my passion”.
“I’m also an ordinary human being just like everyone else who still works, does business and wants to help people in my small capacity (especially the B40 group) as a UPM alumni in line with the UPM slogan – KNOWLEDGEABLE. DEDICATED,” she had penned on her Instagram page.
“I think it wouldn’t be easy to be offered (a position) to serve in the UPM board of directors if I’m not qualified. There may be more qualified people out there but how many really want to serve out of passion?
“This will be my very last comment for this UPM board appointment issue. After all, it’s just about the UPM board only for I’m not even a member of the PETRONAS board.”
For context, UPM has appointed Nurulhidayah to its BOD “in accordance with Section 18(1) of UPM’s Constitution for a period of three years effective from January 2, 2025, to January 1, 2028″, according to her appointment letter signed by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir who is also an UMNO supreme council member.
While her Instagram followers/fans applauded her for being a “humble and generous person”, the public response to Nurulhidayah’s UPM board appointment has been ‘thorny’ to say the least.
Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai has slammed her appointment as evidential that “PH (Pakatan Harapan (PH) has absolutely no determination to reform political appointments”.
“The act of appointing ‘one’s own people’ to important positions and then giving another narrative to defend itself is attune to ‘changing the rules of the game’ by playing by the rules it (PH) has set itself,” he hit out in a media statement.
“If Barisan Nasional (BN) is considered to make political appointments a career, PH is appointing their ‘golden child’.
“I would like to remind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that reducing the number of political appointments compared to the previous government is not reform. Even if their number is only 95, one can’t deny that there’re still political appointees around.”
At the netizen level, political critic Suraya Aziz (@SurayaAOfficial) challenged Nurulhidayah “to display her CV (curriculum vitae)” for public evaluation in her comment to a Malaysiakini post on the Wanita UMNO’s EXCO member.
“It’s very obvious that you’ve low IQ. Why not show your CV qualification so you’ll have a good story to tell that you’ve unmatched qualification’s even though you’re Zahid’s daughter,” teased Suraya while lamenting that “the country will be ruined by UMNO’s unchanging behaviour!”
Another commenter berated Nurulhidayah for belittling the rakyat as if “we’re all born yesterday”.
While one commenter alluded to her father’s so-called “big cable as what she meant by coincidental” – an observation that many seemed to be in concordance.
