Najib Time For People To Question Harapan S Broken Promises
Almost a year has passed since Barisan Nasional's election loss, and former premier Najib Abdul Razak today said the people should seriously question the moral legitimacy of the present Pakatan Harapan government
Taking centre stage at a townhall session with top BN leaders and some 500 supporters at Dewan Merdeka this afternoon, Najib gleefully picked on Harapan's allegedly unfulfilled promises
"We the people give our votes based on promises made in Harapan's manifesto
"Now after a segment of the people has given their votes (to Harapan), that means today we can question the moral legitimacy of this current government," said Najib
"This must be taken seriously. It is a democratic principle, it is about the rule of law
"If we have made promises to the people and we do not fulfil it, then we don't deserve to be a government," said the Pekan MP who mocked Harapan as being full of promises but no substance
The former Umno president said Harapan would continue to lay the blame on BN for its failures, including yesterday's 1.25 per cent hibah (dividend) announcement by Lembaga Tabung Haji, the lowest in its history
"That is completely unacceptable. We must demand higher dividends
"How? Think about it yourself," quipped Najib who appeared to be in high spirits, as he was spurred on by his loyal followers
In announcing the low dividen, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa had blamed poor administration and creative accounting under BN
Najib went on to claim selective prosecution, as he compared the long list of charges against him and Umno acting president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to alleged inaction against Harapan leaders
"I see that if it is done by Harapan, everything is okay. If it's someone on our side, they got remanded three days for calling someone 'stupid'," he claimed during a panel session together with MCA president Wee Ka Siong and MIC deputy president M Saravanan
Earlier, Wee similarly mocked Harapan as a "dreaming government" (kerajaan khayalan) for its high ambitions and alleged lack of commitment to realise their promises
"They can't even manage cars on the road but yet they talk about flying cars," the Ayer Hitam MP said to laughter from the crowd, referencing Harapan's promise to abolish toll collection, which was only later replaced with a congestion charge
Like Najib, Wee said even as a non-Muslim he was saddened by the low Tabung Haji dividends this year, unlike under BN rule where it continued to pay higher dividends
He further mocked the integrity of the government in power today with jibes at the fake education certificates controversy which hit a list of Harapan leaders
