Najib Takes Swipe At Ag For Being In The Dark Over Some Cases
Former prime minister Najib Razak takes jibe at Attorney-General Tommy Thomas for being unaware of certain cases being filed in court.PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak took a swipe at the attorney-general, listing down the times Tommy Thomas was seemingly in the dark over certain important cases
The former prime minister’s jibe came after Thomas claimed ignorance over an appeal filed by his office recently
Last week, Thomas said the appeal filed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) against Rafizi Ramli’s acquittal under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia) was done without his knowledge
The AGC has since rescinded the appeal against the PKR vice-president, who was acquitted for allegedly revealing bank accounts related to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC)
Najib said this wasn’t the first time Thomas seemed to be unaware of cases being filed
He said in April, Thomas — according to a DAP MP — had reportedly said he would personally probe why the courts had released an employer charged with abusing and murdering her Indonesian maid in Penang
Then in July, Thomas was reported to have said that he wasn’t aware of a cross-appeal filed against Muslim preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin for making seditious remarks
Again in July, Najib said it was reported that Thomas denied any involvement in filing an affidavit at the Court of Appeal that firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim did not die from being beaten up
Thomas was reported to have said that while he was in charge of over 1,200 legal staff, including deputy public prosecutors tasked with criminal cases and federal counsel who handled civil cases, he does not instruct them on their daily tasks. - FMT
