Mum Pleads Guilty To Giving Milk Mixed With Drugs To One Year Old Son
A 34-year-old housewife pleaded guilty to giving her son, aged one year and four months, milk mixed with water containing the drug methamphetamine.
“I plead guilty but it was unintentional,” she told the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court this morning.
Her 40-year-old husband, however, claimed trial to the same charge under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 (Act 611).
Under this section, it is an offence for anyone responsible for the care of a child to “abandon, neglect, or expose the said child to danger to cause him/her physical or emotional injury”.
According to the charge sheet, the incident occurred at an apartment in Taman Medan on Feb 19 resulting in the couple’s youngest child suffering from alleged “sympathomimetic drug ingestion”.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zuhaini Mahamad Amin proposed that each accused be allowed bail of RM15,000 with one surety.
“This includes an additional condition of reporting to the police station once a month as well as other conditions deemed appropriate by the court,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.
The DPP also revealed that the couple’s marriage was not registered in Malaysia.
The woman pleaded with the court to reduce the bail amount, claiming that she does not have a job and her other children need her at home.
Her husband told the court that he needed to support his other school-going children and care for his parents.
Following this, the court set bail at RM5,000 for each accused with one surety and ordered them to report to the police station once a month. - Mkini
