More Than 1 000 Flood Victims Evacuated In 6 States

The states involved are Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Johor, Penang and Kedah
In Selangor, the number of evacuees increased to 743 from 234 families
A Smart Selangor Command Centre spokesman said the relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Mahang, Jeram, continued to receive more flood victims now totalling 536 from 148 families compared to 492 this morning
“At SK Ijok, the number rose to 72 people from 49 families compared to 32 victims this morning. The number of victims in the PPS at Kuala Selangor District Council Hall in Desa Coalfields remained at 89 people from 22 families while in SK Jaya Setia, there were 46 victims from 15 families,” he told Bernama
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, the Jelebu District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) secretariat reported 69 people from 23 families in Jelebu district were housed in two PPS at Kampung Juntai hall and Kampung Jerang mosque, increasing from 38 victims from 16 families this morning
In PERAK, the number of flood victims went up slightly to 200 people in the evening compared to 198 at noon at two evacuation centres
According to the Welfare Department as at 2.27 pm, all the victims were sheltered at two PPS in Kerian and Hilir Perak
“69 victims from 14 families were housed at the PPS in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan in Hilir Perak, while the PPS at SK Changkat Lobak, Jalan Selama in Kerian district was sheltering 131 people from 30 families
According to the portal, 10 people from four families were still housed at the PPS in Kampung Teras community hall, Ijok near Batu Kurau, near Larut Matang and Selama following a landslide on Friday
In JOHOR, the number of victims affected by floods in the state involving two districts remained at 105 people from 24 families
State Local Government, Urban Well-Being and Environment Committee chairman Tan Chen Choon said this evening, 89 people from 21 families were still housed at the PPS in SK Melayu Raya in Pontian district with victims from Kampung Sepakat Jaya, Kampung Melayu Raya, Kampung Maju Jaya, Kampung Pak Khalid and Kampung Paya Embun
He said 16 victims from three families in Batu Pahat were still being sheltered at the PPS in SK Sungai Kajang since Oct 23
In Penang, 94 flood victims in Bukit Mertajam were still housed at the PPS  this evening falling from 147 people this morning
State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said as at 4 pm, three PPS are still open with 25 families
Phee said 46 victims from 10 families were still at the Taman Sukun community hall PPS while the Tok Suboh People’s Housing Project community hall PPS was still housing 22 people from eight families while 26 flood victims from seven families were still sheltered at the Kampung Maggis Kemas Nursery PPS
According to Phee, there were more flood victims involving residents of Kampung Maggis at the PPS since Tuesday as flood waters had not completely subsided with continuous rain day and night
In KEDAH, a PPS housing 28 flood victims from nine families was opened in Pendang at about 2.15 pm
According the Welfare Department disaster info portal, they were relocated to the Pendang multipurpose hall after Sungai Pendang waters overflowed into residential areas beside the river including Kampung Sukamari, Kampung Hampar Kanan, Kampung Batu Hampar, Kampung Banggol Kambing and Kampung Tanah Merah Dalam
The Meteorological Department forecast rain and thunderstorms tomorrow in Peninsula states and Labuan, as well as Kudat and Sandakan in Sabah; and Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit and Bintulu in Sarawak. - FMT
