Mof Denies Social Media Post Claiming Nurul Izzah Is Paid Adviser To Laksana
The Finance Ministry today decried fake social media posts alleging that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar was paid as an adviser to the Economic Stimulus Implementation and Coordination Unit Between National Agencies (Laksana).
In a post on X, the ministry said that the agreement document published on social media is an invalid draft of an offer letter.
“The valid agreement that has been signed by Nurul Izzah is to provide advisory services to Laksana on a ‘pro bono’ basis or without receiving financial remuneration or any interest, as has been made known to the public,” the post said.
Yesterday, Nurul Izzah said she would lodge a police report against a defamatory posting against her.
Additionally, in a post on Facebook, the former Permatang Pauh MP said that her lawyer would lodge the report on her behalf this morning once the latter is done with their Chinese New Year holidays.
According to a report from The Star, a Facebook user had uploaded a post in which they claimed that Nurul Izzah had been appointed as a Laksana adviser with a salary of RM35,000.
Last year, Anwar appointed Nurul Izzah as a senior adviser on economics and finance. The position was an unpaid one.
He later defended the decision after being asked whether Nurul Izzah - who has a bachelor’s degree in engineering - was qualified to be an economic and financial adviser.
He said that she also has a second degree in public policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
Laksana was established under the Finance Ministry to monitor the implementation of Malaysia’s 2020 economic stimulus package amounting to RM20 billion.
