Ministry Instructs Limkokwing Uni To Reapply For Accreditation
The Higher Education Ministry has instructed Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) to reapply for full accreditation for eight of their courses two months ago.
This was among the measures the ministry took to help LUCT students who were caught in limbo following a continued delay by the university in obtaining the accreditation.
"On July 14, the ministry met with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), Education Malaysia Global Service (EMGS) and LUCT to determine the action needed to be taken to help the students," Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad said in a parliamentary reply yesterday.
"The ministry suggested that LUCT reapply for full accreditation immediately with improvement on the issues of quality for the programmes involved.
"(LUCT should) conduct a briefing for the affected students on the latest situation and propose solutions that will be taken to ensure their studies are not affected.
"The university should come up with a course mapping for students who intend to change to another course with MQA accreditation," she told Ong Kian Ming (Harapan-Bangi) who asked about the efforts being taken to help the students.

On Sept 29, 2020, MQA revoked the accreditation for eight courses after the university was found not complying with the standard set by the regulatory body, said Noraini.
In early May, some students claimed that numerous bachelor, MBA and PhD courses offered by LUCT do not have accreditation from the MQA and some other courses had their accreditation revoked.
They also claimed to be representing as many as 840 of their peers.
LUCT was founded in 1991 and named after its president Lim Kok Wing who passed away in June at the age of 75. - Mkini
