Malaysians In Uk Safe Amid Unrest By Far Right Protestors After Fatal Knife Attack Of 3 Girls In Stockport
EXCEPT for a minor case of a broken car window, Malaysians are generally safe as violent disorder swept across several British cities over the weekend, injuring police and damaging property in the most widespread rioting in the country for 13 years following last week’s murder of three young girls in northwest England.
“From my residential area earlier, Alhamdulillah so far there has not been any untoward incident to our fellow Malaysians. Only the car window of a Malaysian was broken by the mobsters,” Aid Fawzal (@AidFawzal) filed an on-the-ground observation on the X platform.
Stating that there has been “sporadic rioting here and there”, the Malaysian engineer who is residing in the UK warned against “walking alone and avoid passing by quiet areas”
“Even the police have to react in a cowardly manner. If there’s anything amiss, just run. No need to be confrontational and being defensive.”
Aid Fawzal’s tweet came in the wake of the Foreign Ministry advising Malaysians residing in or travelling to the UK to stay away from areas involved in protests over the stabbing incident in Southport.
Wisma Putra further urged Malaysians to remain vigilant and follow the latest updates and guidance provided by local authorities.
“Malaysians who have not yet registered with the Malaysian High Commission in London are strongly encouraged to do so immediately to ensure they receive timely information and assistance,” said the Foreign Ministry in a statement yesterday (Aug 4).
Wisma Putra stated that Malaysians requiring consular assistance can reach the Malaysian High Commission in London at 45-46 Belgrave Square, London.

People confront police officers during a protest in Bolton, Britain, Aug 4, 2024
People take part in an anti-immigration protest outside a hotel housing immigrants in Aldershot, Britain, Aug 4, 2024For context, riots involving hundreds of anti-immigration protesters have erupted in UK towns and cities after false information spread rapidly on social media that the suspect in last Monday’s (July 29) knife attack at a children’s dance class in Southport was a radical Muslim migrant.
Police later revealed that the suspect, Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, 17, a Christian of South African descent was born in Britain but protests by anti-immigration and anti-Muslim demonstrators have continued, descending into violence, arson and looting.
Rudakubana is also currently facing 10 counts of attempted murder after eight other children and two adults were seriously injured in the attack at the a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.
Violent disorder has thus far erupted in Liverpool, Bristol, Hull and Belfast – four cities located in different corners of the UK – with scuffles breaking out and bricks and bottles thrown as anti-immigration protesters faced groups opposed to racism.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer who took office a month ago after his Labour Party won a decisive election victory over the long-ruling Conservatives condemned what he described as “far-right thuggery”, reported Reuters.
He said perpetrators would face the full force of the law after days of violent anti-immigration protests culminated in hotels being targeted.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council said 147 people had been arrested since Saturday evening (Aug 3) with more following suit in the coming days. – Focus Malaysia
