(AP pic)PETALING JAYA: Malaysians in a Petronas’ facility in Sudan were evacuated to a safe location yesterday evening following days of unrest in the North African country.
Foreign minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said the evacuation was prompted by the worsening clashes in the country’s capital, Khartoum.
“I have summoned the Sudanese ambassador to Malaysia to voice out our view on the conflict being experienced there, following reports of a forced takeover of Petronas Complex in Sudan, which also houses the Malaysian embassy there,” he said in a statement.
Ads by KioskedZambry said Wisma Putra has drawn up a plan to bring back the 32 Malaysians in Sudan based on the latest information obtained from the Malaysian embassy in Khartoum.

According to the United Nations, more than 180 people have been killed and 1,800 injured in the clashes as of yesterday.
Zambry said the Malaysians would be brought back to Malaysia when the situation permits.
“I would like to urge Malaysians and their dependents who are in Sudan to reach out to the embassy to ensure swift evacuation plans,” he said.
“Based on the current situation, if there is a window of opportunity, it would only be for a very limited time.”
