Malaysia S Economic Narrative Shifted In Two Years Pm

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that Malaysia’s economic narrative has shifted from uncertainty to recovery and from defensive measures to proactive restructuring in the past two years.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said that the country's growth remains steady, inflation is contained, and unemployment is low; however, what defines success is not the comfort of stability but the readiness to confront the next disruption.
According to him, investors understand that Malaysia's fiscal consolidation path is about stewardship and making sure that every ringgit of public money is spent with purpose.
“Confidence grows when governments show the courage to reform, while going in lockstep with the propensity to spend strategically.
ADS“Capital growth must always be in tandem with expansion efforts in the name of social justice, true to the spirit of Malaysia Madani,” he said in his special address at Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2025 in Kuala Lumpur today.
Also present were Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan, Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, and Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong.
Risk approach
According to the prime minister, Malaysia’s approach to risk is anchored in good governance - without it, risk becomes a licence for recklessness; with it, risk becomes the key to innovation.
“Institutions like Khazanah must continue to embody this philosophy of stewardship - their task is not simply to seek profit, but to balance commercial returns with national development.
“Khazanah must also continue to champion inclusive development, ensuring that the benefits of growth reach ordinary Malaysians,” he added.
Anwar also noted that the government's challenge is to steer Malaysia through the global uncertainty with clarity and composure.
The two-day Khazanah Megatrends Forum, which marks its 20th edition, carries the theme “Debugging Uncertainty: Lessons from the Grasshopper and the Ant on Living with Risk.”
